Street vendors constitute an important segment at the bottom of the pyramid of the informal economy in cities. Street vending provides a source of self-employment, and acts as a measure of urban poverty alleviation. Street vending also has a prominent place in the urban supply chain, and provides inexpensive and convenient access to goods and services to all segments of the population including the poor. Street vending is therefore an integral part of the economic growth process in urban areas.
Objective of SUSV is to address the vulnerabilities of the urban street vendors through a multi-pronged approach. Wayanad, as an initiative is planning to give a unique code in dress and shop for Mananthavady street vendors which give them a sense of identity and unity.
As a part of Harithadbham Project Wayanad District Mission has indroduced a new intiative in the field of conservation of water as Mazhakoithu , Kudineerinte karuthal. Thorugh this project the distrcit mission is going to launch 400 rain harvesting units all over in wayanad. The total project cost is 5700 and out of this 3500 is given as subsidy with the financial support of NABARAD. The technical support for this project is from Brahmagiri Develepment Society,
Max Fashion – which brings international fashion and value to discerning shoppers in over 325 stores across our country, recruited 10 ST candidates from Wayanad for Associate Customer care Executive position for their operations across Kerala with the annual CTC of 1, 40, 00 INR. The selective candidates undergone DDU GKY summer training programme Business Banking & ITES in Avon Facility Management Service Idukki. Though it is a relatively new program, the industry response and acceptance of this program have once again been reiterated in the summers.
DDU GKY Wayanad witnessed yet another successful season of placement drive in our operations for the class of 2016 - 17, come to a close. We have recently hosted an off campus recruitment drive in association with Avon Facility Management Services – for the candidates of Business Banking & ITES training programme in the first week of April 2017. 16 students from Wayanad were offered a gamut of roles in the Supply Chain – Logistics domain; Fashion Stores Sourcing and Telecommunication sectors. The current placement process saw a participation of multiple companies, with the students opting for 12 of them. The highlight of the process was the diversity of sectors represented by these companies and the number of projects offered by them. The minimum annual package offered was 1, 32, 00 INR.
After making their successful presence felt in various fields from pickle making to business, our empowered women are now stepping into flagship Skilling initiative of Kudumbashree Kerala - Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). DDU - GKY Wayanad is crossing one more mile stone in Skilling mission, in the history of Kerala DDU GKY operations - a CDS (Community Development Society) Chairperson the highest strata of the Kudumbashree structure has placed through Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) programme, Mrs AJITHA TK Chairperson of Thirunelli CDS – Wayanad District, is the first ST Chairperson in Kudumbashree who bagged - The Cafeteria Manager Position in MILMA – (MILK PROCUREMENT AND INPUT (P&I) UNIT) at Kalpetta division – Wayanad, With annual CTC of -1.44 lacks. Milma is the trade mark of the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd, which is the apex Co-op of three regional milk Unions viz. Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulum and Malabar.
Building on the initiative taken by Action for PwDs, DDU GKY Wayanad, which has been working in the skill development inside the district, is on the tip of the southern part of the Deccan Plateau, and has taken a step further. With its strong livelihood focus, DDU GKY Wayanad is core interested in working for the economic rehabilitation of PwDs by identifying viable livelihood options for them and facilitating the implementation of these options.
A feasibility study, therefore, was requested to be taken up so as to assess the capacity of PwDs as well as capacity building issues, types of income generation activities PwDs are interested in or engaged in, various types of supports (technical, marginal, marketing etc) required, sustainability issues so on and so forth. 661- PwDs Identified finally through this mission.
The venue was Wayanad Social Service Society (WSSS) Auditorium Manathavadi; Wayanad -the district can be aptly called the abode of Kerala’s tribal population. The district, which forms an edge of the Deccan plateau of South India, has a luxuriant forest cover. The Chief Guest for the Convocation was the Hon’ble Sub Collector of Wayanad Sri. Sheeram Sambasiva Rao IAS. Also in attendance were other dignitaries from the academic world, industries and the government apart from Director Kudumbashree Smt N K Jaya, Kudumbashree District mission coordinator – Wayanad - Sri Jayachandran K P, Assistant district mission coordinator Sri. K.A Haris, Sri Bibind Vasu DDU GKY State Programme Manager and Fr. Bijo Karukapalli Director WSSS
The Convocation began with a majestic and grand academic procession followed by the National Song sung by the students of DDU GKY Wayanad. The Sub Collector - in his report emphasized the achievement of our skill aspirants, He also thanked the Kudumbashree Mission in supporting various development activities of society. Our first DDU- GKY Hand written Magazine “OLA -” launched by the famous Malayalam poet and prolific writer Sri. Sadir Thalappuzha. 105 trainees were awarded their certificates and Offer letters were charged by the District mission coordinator – Wayanad - Sri Jayachandran and the Director WSSS Fr. Bijo Karukapalli. The students and the audience were then enthralled by the rousing speech of the Director Kudumbashree Smt N K Jaya. Several other medals and endowment awards were also distributed. The Convocation ended with a Vote of Thanks by the District Programme Manager Skills - Sri Kiran.
Mental health and hygiene is the two sides of a coin. Hygiene is the pre-requisite condition for maintaining good and sound health. Besides these, this unit also deals with the various mechanisms of adjustment. In fact, adjustments mechanisms are the instrument for maintaining the balanced personality as well as the instrument to rescue from the various mal-adjusted behaviors’ and problems. Mental health also includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. On the occasion of second anniversary and Antyodaya Diwas of DDU GKY - A workshop on Mental Health and Hygiene was organized by DDU GKY Wayanad in association with Wayanad social service society – Mananthavadi at WSSS Centre for our trainees. The work was very interesting and helpful. Counseling specialist Mr Suhail P K - gave his views on Mental Health, Normality and abnormality and about Psycho educational assessment. He gave inputs on early identification, prevention and remediation of all mental health issues. Mr Suhail also encouraged them so that centres can start inculcating skills like Attitudes, Team Spirit, Taking Responsibility and Emotional Literacy etc.Overall the Workshop was very enriching and the valuable suggestions given by the experts can be applied in our training centres to bring positive changes
DDU – GKY Wayanad and Avon facility management service in association with KGS Solutions - one of the best service providers in Recruitment Solutions in South India which offers a cohesive range of IT, Non - IT enabled an infrastructure and engineering service has conducted a micro placement drive for the posts of BPO Officers, at Avon facility management service at Kalpetta, Wayanad. The selection is gone through different types of tests such as English Proficiency, Online test and personal interview.74 candidates from our training centers and around Wayanad and Calicut district have appeared for the selection process. Out of 74 appeared candidates 43 were declared to be selected for the posts given an offer letters

Ltd - absorbed of 30 more candidates for their global operations. iD Fresh Food group recruited for both its Sharja & Saudi Arabia location. The average International Salary offered to the students was 35000 inr + Incentives.
