Karunagappally is rather than a new Municipality of the Kollam District. It has got the Municipal status in November 1st 2010.Karunagappally Municipal area falls in the revenue villages of Ayanivelikulangara and Karunagappally. The Municipality has an extend of 18.65 sq.km and has 35 waeds. Karunagappally Municipality is situated 27 kms north of Kollam town and 15 km south of Kayamkulam.The municipality is bounded on the north by Kulasekharapuram Panchayath, north-east and east by Thodiyoor panchayat and west by Alappad Panchayat. Karunagappally is bounded by two backwaters, Vattakayal and Kannetti Kayal in the south and south east and TS canal in the west.
