PATHANAMTHITTA MUNICIPALITY
Pathanamthitta is a town and a municipality situated in the Central Travancore region in the state of Kerala, south India, spread over an area of 23.50 km2. It is the administrative capital of Pathanamthitta district. The town has a population of 37,538. The Hindu pilgrim centre Sabarimala is situated in the Pathanamthitta district; as the main transport hub to Sabarimala, the town is known as the 'Pilgrim Capital of Kerala'.[3] Pathanamthitta. District, the thirteenth revenue district of the State of Kerala. It was formed with effect from 1 November 1982 vide G.O. (M.S) No.1026/82/RD dated 29 October 1982, with headquarters at Pathanamthitta.
Pathanamthitta Municipality, with population of about 38 thousand is Kozhenchery sub district's only municipality located in Kozhenchery sub district of Pathanamthitta district in the state Kerala in India. Total geographical area of Pathanamthitta municipality is 24 km2. Population density of the city is 1597 persons per km2. There are 32 wards in the city, among them Pathanamthitta Ward No 11 is the most populous ward with population of 1654 and Pathanamthitta Ward No 09 is the least populous ward with population of 845.
Nearest railway station is Chengannur which is 26 km far from here. Kozhenchery is the sub district head quarter and the distance from the city is 13 km. District head quarter of the city is Pathanamthitta. Thiruvananthapuram is the state head quarter of the city and is 113 km far from here. Yearly average rainfall of the city is 2790 mm. Maximum temperature here reaches up to 30°C and minimum temperature goes down to 23°C.
The city is home to about 38 thousand people, among them about 18 thousand (47%) are male and about 20 thousand (53%) are female. 91% of the whole population are from general caste, 9% are from schedule caste and 0% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Pathanamthitta municipality is 9%, among them 51% are boys and 49% are girls. There are 9813 households in the city and an average 4 persons live in every family.

Hindus contribute 45% of the total population and are the largest religious community in the city followed by Christians which contribute 30% of the total population and Muslims are the third largest religious community here with 24% population..
