VARKALA
Varkala is a coastal town and a Municipality in Trivandrum district,Kerala state,India,bounded by Arabian Sea on the west,Edava and Anchuthengu backwaters on north and south respectively.Varkala is the only place in southern Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea.This tertiary sedimentary formation cliff is a unique geological feature on then otherwise flat Kerala coast,and is known among geologists as Varkala formation and a geological monument as declared by the Geological Survey of India.There are numerous water spouts and spas on the sides of these cliffs.
Varkala town is located in Varkala Taluk of Trivandrum district,the ancient town of Varkala is situated almost mid-way between Trivandrum and Kollam cities.It is located approximately 51 Km north west of Trivandrum and 31Km south of Kollam.Varkala town has an area of 15.42 Sq.Km.
