Kollam, known as Quilon, a historical city in Kerala lies on the banks of Ashtamudi Lake on the Arabian Sea coast, situated about 71 km north of the State capital, Thiruvananthapuram. It is the district headquarters of Kollam district, 4th largest city in Kerala and also one of the oldest towns in Kerala. Area of Kollam municipal corporation is 72.19 sqkm.
