Perumbavoor municipality was formed in 1936. It was one among the 4 Panchayats sanctioned by Sir C. P. Ramaswamy Iyer(Diwan-Thiruvithamcore). The others were Paravur, Nedumangad and Boothapandi.[1] Kandanthara is the nearest place from town & which is the largest populated Muslim jama-ath in Ernakulam district, History of kandanthara has been also discussed by many newspapers earlier. Perumbavoor constituency is one of the most Jacobite Christian populated area in India. The name perumbavoor comes from perumba+oor, where 'perum' means 'big' and 'oor' means 'place'. It is also believed that the name comes from perumbambu+oor 'perumbammbu' means'pythons'-a non venomous snake and 'oor' means 'place' were Many years back, Most of the region contains dense forest landscape, full of pythons. The Tamil people hunt pythons to make sidha medicines and to use the snake meat as well as snake fat.
