Taliparamba was the first capital of the chirakkal Rajas and was an ancient and renowned centre of culture learning and arts during the 14th and 15th cenuries . and the name Taliparamba has been interrupted by historians to have derived from Tali (Siva temple) and parambu (ground), a place where the Siva temple existed. The NH 17 passes through Taliparamba and the municipal bus stand and the Kakkathodu Bus stand serve as the transit point. The town is located at a distance of 22 KM from District Head Quarter Kannur.
