Kalpetta is a town and a municipality in the Wayanad district, state of Kerala, India. Kalpetta is the headquarters of Wayanad district as well as the headquarters of Vythiri taluk. kalpetta is the only second grade municipality in wayanad.kalpetta became municipality on 1st april 1990 and the first council constituted 0n 25th september 1990.

Population

The city is home to about 32 thousand people, among them about 15 thousand (49%) are male and about 16 thousand (51%) are female. 83% of the whole population are from general caste, 7% are from schedule caste and 10% are schedule tribes. Child (aged under 6 years) population of Kalpetta municipality is 11%, among them 51% are boys and 49% are girls. There are 7519 households in the city and an average 4 persons live in every family.
